GET TO KNOW nitrogen gas charged shocks

How Gas-Charged Shocks Work

Gas-charged shocks add nitrogen to the original hydraulic shock design to enhance performance for a more responsive, smoother ride. Inside the shock, a low-pressure charge of nitrogen gas is added in the chamber above the hydraulic oil to minimize aeration of hydraulic fluid. This helps significantly reduce fade, minimize vibrations, and extend service life.

Why Gas Charging Improves Ride Performance

Gas charging minimizes hydraulic fluid aeration, which causes foaming. Aeration negatively impacts ride performance. The addition of nitrogen gas to the shock assembly compresses air bubbles in the hydraulic fluid and prevents the oil and air from mixing to create foam. By reducing aeration, the gas-charged shock is more responsive and performs better by providing more consistent dampening.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "gas-charged" actually mean for a heavy duty shock?
A low-pressure nitrogen charge sits in the chamber above the hydraulic oil, which minimizes fluid aeration. This reduces fade, cuts vibration, and extends service life compared to a standard hydraulic shock.
What vehicle classes are these designed for?
Coverage spans Class 3 through 8 commercial vehicles, including cab shocks, truck/trailer/bus shocks, and steering stabilizers.
How many OEM part numbers do these cover?
FCS offers coverage for over 5,000 OEM part numbers across commercial applications.
What keeps the bushing from shifting out of place under heavy loads?
Specially designed concave bushings are built to keep the bushing seated and prevent bushing walk-out.
Are these meant to be paired with anything else for best performance?
Yes, they’re engineered to perform as an upgrade over OE when paired with FCS Heavy Duty Air Springs.
How durable are the eye-rings under rough road conditions?
The eye-rings are robotically arc-welded for superior durability and designed to handle harsh road conditions.
